A package for geometry creation is used to tell a person what needs to be done for geometry creation and what is expected as end result. This package consists of:

• Price list
• Images (general and with dimensions and web links)
• Proved dimensions of parts
• index

Usually this one is provided by the customer. It holds the information of:

• Available articles for the project
• Available configurations for the articles
• Bounding box dimensions.
• Sometimes images

In case a price list is not available yet, ask for one. In case a customer cannot offer one, the project must be rejected till one is available.

The images give a visualisation of the articles to build. They should be provided by the customer. In case images are not available, ask for them. In case a custome cannot offer them, the project must be rejected till they are available. It is not advisable to search for image on your own. Sometimes customers have a web shop with their products. In case this is known, it can be used as completment. Best to send the links for the images here.

In case the provision can be influenced, allways ask for images from:

• Top
• Side left and right
• Back
• Bottom
• Details (e.g. stitches, legst, buttons, wrinkles, mechanical parts, animations, etc)

Before starting the modelling, the 3D artist needs to have exactly dimensions. The price list can help for getting rough dimensions like:

• Bounding box
• Seat height
• Armrest width
• Leg height
• Seat depth

Exact dimensions like the dimensions of a seat cushion or a leg dimensions must be provided by the customer. In case the full dimensions of an article cannot be offered, the article cannot be build.

Some times there is just a handfull of dimensions given. Check if other dimensions can be calculated from the given ones. In case there is a simple couch given:

What would be the width of the frame part and seat cushions?

• Overall width is 2,3 m
• Armrest width is 0.15 m → for two armrests: 2*0,15 m = 0,3 m
• The frame part is than: 2,3 m - 0,3 m = 2 m
• The seat cushion with is than 2 m / 2 = 1 m

In case a dimension could not be calculated, ask the customer for detailed dimensions.

When having a set of dimensions, check if:

• In all images the dimensions are the same. E.g. in case having just one leg type the dimension is not allowed to switch between 10, 13 or 15 cm in each image. In this case ask for the correct dimension.
• When summing up differen heights together. E.g Leg height + Frame height + seat cushion height it must match the given dimension for seat height. A difference of 1-3 cm is proved by the price list and measurement inaccuracies. But everything out of this range is not alowed and needs provement.
• Are they plausible? In case a leg is given with a dimension of 15 m, is this correct or a typo.

While checking the dimensions, the given dimensions from the price list are the leading ones. In case something doesn't match it must be adjusted to fit to the bounding boxes in the price list.

As a result of the checking of the dimensions, a cleared document should be provided to the 3D artist, that lists all articles with their correct dimensions. Use this template, it was designed with libre office draw:
